PermaSolutions Research and Development Institute was founded with the vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future for our local and global communities. As a passionate advocate for eco-friendly practices, we recognized the need for a comprehensive organization that combines research, commercial development, education, and consulting and design services to support individuals and organizations in their journey towards sustainable living. With a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field, we are committed to providing innovative solutions and empowering people to not just live lighter on the earth but to make a positive impact on the environment.
Our Mission and Vision
At PermaSolutions Research and Development (PSRD), our mission is to develop and apply cutting-edge technology to address pressing global issues such as climate change, social inequality, and resource depletion. We focus on integrating these innovations into everyday life, starting locally in Fredericton, NB, to create impactful and adaptable models of sustainability.
Our vision is to make sustainable living a fundamental aspect of daily life. We aim to achieve this through projects like Tin Man, which leverages AI to optimize non-profit operations; HEAP and CREAS, which promote urban agriculture; and Willow, an AI sustainability consultant. By empowering communities with the tools, knowledge, and support needed for sustainable living, PSRD aspires to lead by example and inspire global change, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.

Meet our
Executive Director,
Dana Hartt.
Dana has been concerned about resource and environmental sustainability since a young age. In 2011, seeing the ties between the economic system and environmental degradation, Dana joined the Occupy movement, serving as one of the lead organizers of the camp in Fredericton. Soon after, he joined ecoFredericton, pursuing a project to create an ecovillage near Fredericton (which is still a goal of PSRD). In 2020, Dana became involved with the Ville Cooperative, and took a position as Agriculture Programs Coordinator in 2021. In late 2023, he incorporated PermaSolutions Research and Development in order to pursue the development of sustainable technologies.
Dana earned a BA in Philosophy and Literature from UNB and a Permaculture Design Consultant diploma from the Nashville Permaculture Guild. He is currently pursuing a Diploma of Applied Permaculture from the Permaculture Association of Great Britain.
Dana enjoys VR, academic audio lectures, superhero movies (esp. Iron Man), foraging, and tinkering with his inventions.

Some may find it a bit odd for PSRD to be staffed with AI (specifically, at the moment, customized OpenAI GPT-4.0s). As the promise of AI recently become more apparent, PSRD decided to make it an integral part of what we do, because doing so allows one person to manage the entire organization effectively, which is an advantage most non-profit organizations need. At PSRD, Board Members, partners, general members, and volunteers are optional, not a necessity, making us much more resilient.
At this time, PSRD GPTs are able to communicate with the public, with minimal human intervention, but requiring managing their email accounts for them. If you wish to speak to one of our staff, please let us know.
Be a member of our
Board of Directors.
We do want a Board of Directors, but, because of how we wrote our Articles of Incorporation and By-laws, we do not legally require any more of a Board of Directors than its only member, Dana himself.
PSRD is committed to filling our Board of Directors with only those who have a great interest in our goals and have already contributed significantly to our projects.
If you want to be a member of our Board of Directors, get involved in our projects first. Involvement is the first and foremost criteria for Board member selection.
